Steve Cummings

Former CEO/Senior Regional Executive for the Americas of MUFG

Steve Cummings served as Chief Executive Officer/Senior Regional Executive for the Americas and as a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. operations of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (“MUFG”), the largest overseas unit of the fifth largest financial institution in the world with $2.8 trillion in assets, from 2015 to 2021. At MUFG, Mr. Cumming’s primary responsibilities for the U.S. business, which had $350 billion in assets, $6 billion in revenue, and 17,000 full-time employees, included recruiting and developing a world class leadership team, integrating previously independently managed business units, driving new business and growth initiatives, as well as redefining performance management practices, addressing significant technology, risk, and regulatory priorities, and developing a high performing and inclusive culture. Beginning in 2018, he also served as Deputy CEO of Global Corporate and Investment Banking to advance and integrate the global business model.

Prior to MUFG, Mr. Cummings was a Managing Director, Head of Corporate Client Solutions and Chairman of Investment Banking for the Americas at UBS, where he led the business through a post-Great Financial Crisis restructuring and successfully refocused the business strategy, improving returns on equity for the America’s business activities from the mid-single digits to over 20%. Previously, Mr. Cummings was a Senior Executive President and Global Head of Corporate and Investment Banking at Wachovia Corporation; Managing Director, Chairman, and CEO of Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co., an independent M&A advisory boutique; and Vice President, Corporate Finance at Kidder, Peabody & Co.

Mr. Cummings previously served on the board of Northstar Realty Finance Corp.

He received an MBA from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and a BA in Administrative Science from Colby College.
